akanbee あかんべえ (Eyelid Pull Taunt)

In anime, sometimes a character taunts another by pulling down their eyelid and sticking their tongue out. This gesture is called an akanbee あかんべえ in Japanese. Alternatively: akkanbee あっかんべー.

Apparently, the term akanbee comes from akai me 赤い目, "red eye."^{(ja.wikipedia.org)}

Presumably because the inner part of the eyelid is red.

From this, one imagines that it still count as akanbee if someone isn't sticking their tongue out, however, it seems in most case the taunter sticks out their tongue, too.
